PRESALE: "Everybody's Asking" Deluxe Vinyl Only by Lee Baggett

In the pale glow of a green-comet full moon, Lee Baggett’s Everyone’s Asking was born: a trio of bass, drums, and acoustic guitar recorded onto a tape machine that nearly caught fire in a windswept shack above the bay, later rescued and gently embellished under a November full moon. That recording’s warp and whisper are the spine of the album, where words emerge as patchworks of memories stretching back into the 20th century yet vibrating in the present, like the tail of that same green comet.

This new collection arrives as Baggett’s fifth offering in as many years, each one a waypoint in a restless, poetic trajectory: the intimate simplicity of Just A Minute (2021), the adventurous twang and emotional dislocation of Anyway (2022) (It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine), the smooth and surprising tenderness of Echo Me On (2023) (KLOF Mag), and the strange, emerald-lit folk-rock waltz of Waves for a Begull (2024) (High Horse). Everyone’s Asking consolidates that evolution with vivid lyricism, dusty grooves, and an uncanny hall-of-mirrors intimacy.

The title track, “Everyone’s Asking,” is a sunset-country ramble of back-porch folk, low-slung and melting mellow, where Baggett contemplates what it means when someone disappears, physically, emotionally, or spiritually, and how others reach toward meaning in the void (Raven Sings The Blues). Across the record, these questions bloom in many forms: across misted beaches, in the spaces between guitar strings, amid voices spilling from the long shadows of the tape.

Captured in cassette hiss and lunar resonance, Everyone’s Asking is Baggett’s most elusive and evocative work yet, where memory, myth, and the everyday bleed into one another in the golden, half-remembered light of coastal dusk. It is an album that doesn’t so much speak as it beckons, and lingers.
